Scotland’s Great Daffodil Ball 2008 has raised over £120,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build appeal.

The event had a 1940s theme and was billed as a “Build for Victory” extravaganza.

Authentic World War Two vehicles, menus in the style of ration cards and a big band helped the appropriately-dressed guests get into the forties spirit.

Capital Appeal Fundraiser Gemma McDonald said: “This year’s ball was an amazing event; the theme, entertainment, fantastic costumes and glamour made it a night to remember.

“The support we received from local people and businesses was tremendous and made the night very special as well as a successful fundraiser.

“We are overwhelmed by the amount raised. Everyone’s generosity was outstanding.”

The appeal aims to raise £16 million to replace the current Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow with a brand new, modern building.
